Modern Love

Modern Love is a 2022 Mural by Charlotte-based artist Sharon Dowell. The mural depicts several modernist buildings located in East Greensboro which were designed by Black architects in the 50s and 60s, celebrating their creativity and legacy. The buildings are presented against a backdrop of a redlining map from the 30s, a reminder that these architects were confined to areas that would purposely not be invested in. The mural sits on 9 metal canvasses fixed to the wall. On the other wall of the underpass, Darlene McClinton led a team of artists to create a mirror image mural, pictured in the 3rd image.

Location: Summit Avenue underpass on Murrow Boulevard
